Jesus Was Nothing Special...UPDATE

I received a comment on my previous post directing me to a response from the university professor who reportedly made these comments.

It appears that Dr. Camp's statements were mischaracterized by The Tennesseean. I would like to publicly apologize to Dr. Camp for falling into a media trap. And thanks to Ribki for pointing it out.

Perhaps I was quick to jump on Dr. Camp's reported statements because I have seen too many "Christian" leaders who are willing to deny the deity of Jesus Christ, who deny that He is the only way to the Father, and who are willing to dilute Christianity for the sake of interreligious harmony.

Dr. Camp does not appear to be one of those people. Here is Dr. Camp's response.

Jesus Was Nothing Special But Mohammed Was

We interrupt this special "swimming pool" series to bring you a breaking news story.

Lipscomb University theologian (not in my opinion) Lee Camp said that in order to live peacefully with Muslims, Christians are going to have to give up the idea that there’s anything special about Jesus.

Ed. Note: The Bible talks about righteous anger and I assure you that is what I am experiencing right now.

To live peacefully with Muslims and Jews, Christians must put aside the notion that their faith requires the creation of a Christian kingdom on Earth (see Note 1), a Lipscomb University theologian told an interfaith gathering at the university.

“We are not going to get very far in our relationship with Jews or Muslims if we do not let go of this idea,” Lipscomb professor Lee Camp said at Tuesday’s conference.

The unusual gathering of several dozen clergy and lay people was devoted to resolving religious conflict in Nashville and around the world.

“We need to forsake the Christendom model,” Camp said. “The most basic Christian commitment ... is that we say we believe in the Lordship of Jesus. But, if we claim that, how can a Muslim or Jew trust us, if we say Jesus is the Lord of all Lords?” (see Note 2) ...

First, Christians must examine their “sins of omission,” he said — such as not taking the time to learn about other religions. Then they must look at their “sins of commission.”

“We have such short historical (memory) spans as white Christians,” he said. “There is a history of anti-Semitism, the violence and bloodshed of the crusades and cultural imperialism. We have to deal with the reality of what Christians have done, which in some cases has been to kill people.” (see Note 3)

Note 1: WRONG! Jesus was very specific that His kingdom would not be an earthly kingdom, but a heavenly kingdom. And I thought Mr. Camp was a theologian.

Note 2: (a) Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me." (b) Who is asking them to trust us? How can we trust Muslims when almost all of the world's conflicts involve Muslims and they have exhibited an extreme hatred for us to the point of torturing and beheading us?

Note 3: I would like Mr. Camp to cite some examples. His "Crusades" reference is a flawed argument and the left uses it like a club to beat home a point. The only problem is that the truth of the Crusades has been rewritten to serve the left's (and Muslims') purposes. The Crusades were not instigated by Christians. The Christians were merely responding in self defense against Muslim attacks and threats.

So let's look a little deeper. Jesus did not preach violence, but forgiveness. Muslims do not preach forgiveness, but violence. Mohammed asks you to die for Islam. Jesus willingly died for you.

Some radical Christians might tell you that your going to hell, but radical Muslims will make it a quick trip.

OT: Swimming Pool Construction: Day 2

Day 2 brought an unexpected surprise. Apparently, there is an underground water source about 4-5' below the surface. This morning the deep end of the pool had quite a bit of water in it which had to be pumped out. That slowed work quite a bit.

All of the wall braces were anchored today and water is still seeping into the deep end.

OT: Swimming Pool Construction: Day 1

The installers and heavy equipment rolled in at 8:00 am. The first thing that had to be done was for our privacy fence to be partially taken down to allow access for the equipment.

Then the digging began. It was amazing to see how fast the hole was dug. On the first day they had the walls and the steps installed.

OT: Swimming Pool Construction: Introduction

When we decided to put an in-ground swimming pool in at our house I searched the Internet for information on pool construction and the various stages involved. I only found a couple of resources outside of marketing material posted by swimming pool retailers.

In this series I thought I would give you a look into pool construction from a customer's point of view, complete with daily photographs. As far as blogging is concerned, I am already behind but I'll catch up in a day or two.

INTRODUCTION

To purchase our pool, we chose Burton Pools & Spas in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Burton is one of the Top 50 pool builders in the nation and I happen to work next door to their store.

We looked a different manufacturers of pools and settled on Pacific Pools. They offer a moderately priced pool kit that is extremely strong, durable, and beautiful.

To best fit our needs, yard, and budget, we selected the Oblique shape with an 8' diving end and a saline generator. We have spoken to several people and not one of them regretted purchasing the saline generator. They said the water was much easier on the eyes and skin, and maintenance time and costs were significantly lower with saline.

Now, to get started, I'll show you the layout spray painted onto the ground before construction began. And with a little Photoshop wizardry (and I do mean "a little"), I overlayed the photo to get a better idea of what it would look like after construction.

How Could Anyone Vote For This Idiot?

Normally, I won't resort to any name calling. It isn't productive and it is something liberals thrive on.

However, there comes a time when there just isn't a better way to get your point across. So here it is: Charlie Rangel is an idiot. He is a loathesome, hateful, arrogant, elitist jerk. There. I feel better.

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

He's so stupid the John Kerry debacle went right over his head. Or did it? Actually, I don't believe that it did. This is the mantra among liberals. Our military is made up of low-income, going nowhere, uneducated grunts.

These people know the truth about our military. They know how educated and skilled it is. But if they can make the American people believe otherwise, that's all that matters. What do liberals want? Less defense spending and a smaller military. If our military is primarily made up of stupid people, then let's get rid of them. That would save us a lot of money that we can give to the poor, uneducated people who have no choice but to join the military.

I have a very close friend who is a Major in the U.S. Army. Like all other soldiers according to Mr. Rangel, he started out as an "uneducated" private. I would, on any day, anywhere, on any issue, put this soldier in a public debate against Mr. Rangel. Then we would find out who the stupid one is.

OT: Hogs Stumble

The #5 Arkansas Razorbacks (10-2) faced a very good #8 LSU (10-2) team today that is playing its best football of the season. It was a wild offensive game with LSU squeaking out a 31-26 victory.

Running back Darren McFadden rushed for 182 yards and broke the Arkansas single season rushing record held by Madre Hill. Quarterback Casey Dick had a miserable day going 3/17 for just 29 yards. McFadden threw twice with two completions for 33 yards.

Arkansas will meet Florida in the SEC Championship game next Saturday at 5:00 pm CT. The game will be broadcast live on CBS.

Insult Reparations

When I first heard about Michael Richards' outburst directed at a couple of blacks in the audience, I wondered how long it would take before they would ask for money. Actually, it took longer than I expected.

If I were Richards' attorney or the jury, my question would be, "How have these people been damaged?" They chose to go to a comedy club and they chose to heckle the comedian. When the tables were turned on them, they whine and want money.

Don't misunderstand. I am not defending Richards' outburst or use of racial epithets in any way. He was wrong. But to ask for monetary compensation is ludicrous.

Maybe Richards' was monetarily damaged by the heckling and should countersue.

Richards' has apologized and said he is not a racist. Many people who know him are saying that this is very uncharacteristic and that he is not a racist.

He apologized. Be a man, accept the apology and move on.

Thanksgiving Wines

I find it difficult to pair wines with turkey, so I usually don't break out the most expensive stuff on Thanksgiving. Generally, what I find I like best (or dislike the least) with the dang bird are deeply fruity, non-tannic reds (Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, 1-2 year old Beaujolais). For whites, I generally go with a German Kabinett Riesling, Alsace Gewurz, or off-dry to slightly sweet Chenin Blanc.

So for this Thanksgiving, I went with a coupla wines I've already reviewed here: the Lolonis Vineyards LADYBUG RED Cuvee V (Redwood Valley), previously reviewed here and here, and the 2002 Trimbach Gewurztraminer, previously reviewed here. Both were soft, fruity, and went (relatively) well with turkey.

For dessert, we had a 2004 Rudolf Muller Hainfelder Ordensgut RIESLING EISWEIN. It was surprisingly inexpensive for a true Eiswein -- $19.99 at Central Market. Not the most complex Eiswein around, but very nice. Piercing nose of contrasting smells -- honeyed peaches and tart granny smith apples. Fairly sweet, fruity and long in the mouth, with mouthwatering acidity keeping everything very fresh tasting and light. It was gone before I could go outside and take some more critical notes about it. I'm going to get more of this!

Jimmy Carter: Rewriting History

Alan Dershowitz has a great article on The Huffington Post about Jimmy Carter's new book, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid. Dershowitz has a list of several inaccuracies and mischaracterizations in the book.

The article is a great primer on Israeli-Arab relations since the 1930's. While Carter places all blame on Israel, Dershowitz points out how Arabs have repeatedly rejected offers and negotiations.

As expected, the moonbats came out in droves to denounce Dershowitz's claims. However, not one, no not one, was able to refute with facts or evidence what Dershowitz said.

2002 L'Aventure (Stephan Vineyards) Paso Robles ZINFANDEL

This was an elegantly-styled, but flavorful, Zin. Black ruby color. Sweet nose of mixed mountain berries, melted brown sugar, and balsa wood. Soft, but concentrated fruit in the mouth, in a medium-bodied format that seemed at odds with its 15+% alcohol. Not a blockbuster, but a very tasty, feminine-style Zinfandel. 88. Was $24.82 at Spec's on Smith.

2004 Beckmen Vineyards CUVEE LE BEC (Santa Ynez Valley, California)

This wine started out big and intense, but on the lean and austere side. After it was opened for about 2 hours, its nose became more fruity and accessible, and the palate rounded out nicely.

Dense saturated black ruby color. At first, the most prevalent aromas were those of scorched earth, iodine, and balsa wood. With substantial air time, big aromas of blackberry liqueur came out. Concentrated sweet blackberry and scorched earth flavors. This wine needs full flavored food to really shine. Long finish, with substantial but ripe tanin. Will definitely improve over the next 2-3 years. 88+ . Was $13.60 at Spec's on Smith.

2001 Villa di Vetrice CHIANTI RUFINA RESERVA (Tuscany, Italy)

Vetrice is one of my favorite good value sources for Chianti in recent years. This reserva is excellent.

Deep, youthful, sparkling dark ruby. Very elegant nose of spicy, ripe cherries and smokey, earthy scents. Medium-bodied, yet concentrated flavors of earthy cherries and smokey minerals. Lengthy finish with very nice fruit/acid balance. 90. A very good value at $16.50 at Spec's on Smith.

OT: Arkansas vs LSU Preview

Well, this is a big game for the Razorbacks. No, we have nothing to lose regarding the SEC but losing would hurt our #5 national ranking and kill any chance we might have of playing in the BCS championship game, even if LSU is ranked #10. USC beating California last weekend was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

USC plays Notre Dame this weekend and they are ranked #3 and #6, respectively. If USC wins, we probably won't move up in the rankings. If Notre Dame wins by a small margin, they will jump above us but USC probably won't drop below us. So, I'm hoping for a Notre Dame blowout. That might drop USC out of the Top 5 and let us move up one.

But first, we have to beat LSU and Florida. LSU has a good, strong quarterback but they've had somewhat of a bumpy road this year. Overall, Arkansas has better athletes and they just need to focus on their strengths and execute their game plan.

The Arkansas vs LSU game airs this Friday on CBS at 1:30 pm Central.

George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

A Lot To Be Thankful For

This time of year a lot of people are making lists of things they are thankful for. I have a lot to be thankful for so I want to throw my hat in the ring.

  • I am thankful for my family. I have the best wife and kids in the world. I can't imagine life without them. They bring happiness into my life.

  • I am thankful for my friends. They keep me in line, help me when I am down, and give me unsolicited advice even when I don't want it. (just kidding)

  • I am thankful for all of the men and women who choose to serve in the United States military. If you want to see me, a person who is very docile, get visibly angry, just say something negative about our soldiers. My brother is a Master Sergeant in the USAF, my brother-in-law is a Warrant Officer in the US Army, one of my best friends in the world is a Major in the US Army (soon to be Lt. Colonel), and my next-door neighbor is a Major in the US Army. All of them have served in the Middle East and some in Iraq. I am thankful that they all came home safely.

  • I am thankful for the men, women, and children who were fed up with tyranny and oppression, and gave their lives to create the greatest nation on Earth, the one we call America. They had a vision like no other in history, that the individual had a right to be free and could achieve great things if he were unencumbered by governmental control.

  • I am thankful for conservatives and libertarians who understand that big government limits the freedom and success of the individual, thereby limiting the freedom and success of the state, and of the nation.

  • I am thankful for all of the right-wing bloggers/media personalities out there who give of their time to expose wrongs and inform others of the truth. Some I have been honored to personally correspond with and get to know. If I start listing I am going to be in trouble but here I go (in alphabetical order):
    BlackFive
    Captain's Quarters
    David Limbaugh
    David J. Sanders
    Little Green Footballs
    Matt Drudge
    Michelle Malkin
    NWA Politics
    RedState.com

  • I am thankful for the liberal Democratic leadership in Congress. There isn't anything better the GOP could do to strengthen their party than to let these people implement their Contract On America. We'll see you in 2008.

  • I am thankful for Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. These are the two people who I give credit to for my strong, conservative beliefs. Ronald Reagan started it in 1980 and Bill Clinton solidified it throughout the 1980's and early 1990's. By the time Clinton ran for president, I knew liberalism was a cancer that had to be defeated.

  • I am thankful for a God who takes a personal interest in each one of us. I am thankful that He is a God of love and peace, not of hatred and violence. I am thankful that despite the fact that we are wretched, ungrateful beings, that we have been given the opportunity to bridge the chasm that we created between us and God with our self-centeredness.

It would behoove each of us to reflect on all of the things we have to be thankful for and to make thankfulness a part of our daily lives, rather than just one day a year.

I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Newt For President '08? Part II

Some people (including myself) have voiced concerns about Newt's "electability". Yes, Newt does have some baggage that will be used against him. But so does every other candidate, both Republican and Democrat. Just look at Hillary. She's going to need a U-Haul to cart her baggage around.

One person recently said that since Newt Gingrich is not a 'godly' person, we should not support him. This was based on a statement by Jerry Falwell which has been misapplied and misused here. I responded to that person with the following:

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

I think Jerry Falwell is a wise man but you have taken what he said and are painting with it using a broad brush here. Yes, Newt made mistakes. Haven't you?

The foundational principle of Christianity is forgiveness. None of us deserve it, but it is offered to all of us as a free gift.

It sounds like you are saying that because Newt has made mistakes in the past, he is forever disqualified from any leadership positions. If so, that is an unwise, impractical, and judgmental position to take.

If we were instructed to support only perfect people for political office, we could never vote for anyone.

Newt For President '08?

Several times in this blog I have said that Newt Gingrich is our best choice for president in 2008. The problem? He isn't running. Or is he?

Here's an excerpt from an interview in Fortune magazine (thanks to RedState.com):

"I am not 'running' for president. I am seeking to create a movement to win the future by offering a series of solutions so compelling that if the American people say I have to be president, it will happen."

While other potential competitors like Arizona Senator John McCain, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney build staff and hire consultants, Gingrich revealed to Fortune that he plans to create a draft-Newt "wave" by building grassroots support for his health care, national security and energy independence ideas--all of which he has been peddling to corporate audiences over the past six years. "Nice people," Gingrich says of his GOP competitors. "But we're not in the same business. They're running for president. I'm running to change the country."

Michael Richards, Democrat for Congress

In the wake of Michael Richards' (who played the role of Kramer on Seinfeld) racial outburst during a stand-up comedy routine, I thought I would suggest to Mr. Richards that he run for Congress as a Democrat.

Mr. Richards could caucus with either Bobby Byrd in the Senate or Steny Hoyer in the House. They could call it the KKK caucus.

And the left says Republicans are racists.

Watch the Video - WARNING!! Although this is a partially-censored video, it is still very offensive and inappropriate for children.

2000 Brigaldara AMARONE della VALPOLICELLA (Veneto, Italy)

A very distinctive wine from one of my favorite, non-stratospherically-priced Valpolicella producers. Dark ruby color with some brick at the rim. Unique nose of sweet, pruney fruit, gingerbread, and warm earth. Soft, intense and mouthfilling flavors of blackberries, choke cherries, and old barrels. LOTS of body, with some heat showing through. Some tannins remain but are relatively unobtrusive. Very long in the mouth. Essentially like a very good dry Port. Had this one with a unique and intensely flavored pot roast from Novara (braised in red wine vinegar with guanciale, anchovies, and garlic). Could age and round out a few more years because of the fruit density, but not too many years, what, with all that heat already peeking through. 89. Was $64 at Spec's on Smith -- cheap! compared to producers like Quintarelli and Romano dal Forno.

2004 Domaine Manciat-Poncet MACON-CHARNAY "Les Chenes" (Burgundy, France)

Startlingly deep, dark gold color. So dark I though the wine would surely be oxidized. It wasn't. Fresh nose of sweet flowers, grapes, white peaches, and earthy minerals. Velvety textured in the mouth, with ripe apple-pear fruit and lots of pungent mineral flavors. Still fresh, but with that dark color, I'd drink this one up soon just to be safe. 86. Was $11.99 at Richard's on South Shepherd.

2003 Vignobles Careme VOUVRAY Demi-Sec (Loire, France)

This was a nice, reasonably-priced dessert-style Chenin Blanc. Light, bright brassy gold. Ripe pears, quince, and chalky stones in the nose. Round, soft, ripe, and minerally in the mouth. Light body and very nice balance. Comparable to a Riesling Spatlese but a bit shyer due to Chenin Blanc's understated nature. 87. Was $11.99 on sale at Richard's on South Shepherd.

2002 Bodegas Castano SOLANERA "Vinas Viegas" (Yecla, Spain)

I've had some wines from this winery that have tended toward the overextracted, astringent side, but this 65% Monastrell 35% Cabernet was nice. Deep, saturated black ruby. Brooding nose of smoky charcoal embers and cassis. Inky, intense, masculine flavors of concentrated cassis and dry blackberry extract, with a chalky/minerally underlay. Almost austere, but concentrated enough to have some roundness. MACHO! Very good. 87. Will easily keep 2 to 4 more years in a cool cellar. Was $15 at Spec's on Smith.

2004 Talley Arroyo Grande Valley PINOT NOIR (San Luis Obispo County, Cal.)

This was a superb P.N. Light ruby color with purple glints at the rim. Sweet, seductive nose of spiced blackberry juice, flowers, and cigar box. Round and plush in the mouth, with concentrated sweet fruit, toasty warm earth scents, and some well-integrated wood. Great length and beautiful balance. Very sexy, seductive, feminine style Pinot Noir. 91. $33 at Spec's on Smith.

OT: Hogs Clinch SEC West Title

The fifth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (10-1) clinched the SEC Western Division Title this afternoon with a 28-14 victory over Mississippi State (3-8) in Starkville, Mississippi. The 14-point spread is somewhat deceiving because Mississippi State played a great game. They held one of the best running tandems in college football to just 139 yards.

Defense and special teams made the difference as Chris Houston intercepted a pass in the first quarter and ran 87 yards for a TD. Also in the first quarter Darren McFadden returned a kickoff 92 yards for another TD. Arkansas' other touchdowns came on Casey Dick passes, a 29-yarder to Damian Williams in the second quarter and a 35-yarder to Marcus Monk in the third quarter.

Next Friday at 1:30 pm CST, Arkansas hosts LSU at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The game will be televised on CBS.

OT: Arkansas vs Mississippi State Preview

For the first time in years, the #5 Arkansas Razorbacks (9-1) look like a football machine. We certainly aren't invincible but we have the talent to end the season with a very high ranking.

If Arkansas executes its offense like it did last week against Tennessee, Mississippi State (3-7) should be a small speed bump on the road to LSU. However, the Mississippi State defense has played fairly well this year and could present a challenge to the potent Razorback offense led by running back/quarterback/receiver Darren McFadden.

This is also a road game for the Razorbacks in a stadium that has been trouble for them in the past. Arkansas must move the ball early and score to take the crowd out of the game.

Marriage Wasn't Enough, part 2

Update to post below.

I JUST HAD to add these two comments from our newspaper online:

What is the difference between homosexuality, beastality, adultery, and any other sex offender ? Well homosexuality and adultery are pretty much accepted. The others are not. Are big employers gonna offer insurance to animals?

The homo fear factor wouldn't be complete without a reference to bestiality.

But this one made me think of a new idea:

I know people who use the ruse of same sex domestic partners to insure their roommates and their roommate’s kids on their insurance. I am sure it is more widespread than we would like to think.

Marriage rights for gay couples would put an end to this. There wouldn't even be a need for DP benefits if we were allowed to marry. Oh well, they voted for it, live with the consequences.

2005 Cousino-Macul RIESLING "Dona Isadora" (Maipo Valley, Chile)

A great buy in an Alsace-style Riesling. Light, bright silvery-straw color. Terrific nose of fresh grapes, cold steel, and Earl Grey tea. Intense, yet balanced and light-textured flavors of grapes, pear skins, and pungent minerals (gout de petrol, as the French say). Long, soft, dry finish. 88. Was about $9 at Whole Foods on Bellaire, but I think Spec's locations stock this too.

2003 Chateau de Chatelard BEAUJOLAIS-VILLAGES "Les Vieilles Vignes" (France)

I reviewed this one before here. This was my last bottle, and it still is great. Medium deep ruby. No real signs of age. Gorgeous nose of sweet grapes and raspberries, butterscotchy notes, earth and stony minerals. A contradiction in the mouth: mouthfilling flavors of bright, rich fruit, yet a silky, tip-toey, light mouthfeel. Lingering finish and perfect balance. 90. Could last another year, but why wait?

2005 Georges Duboeuf MORGON "Jean Descombes" (Beaujolais, France)

A cleanly-made but not terribly interesting Beaujolais.

Medium dark, crystal ruby/purple. Bright, straightforward fruit nose of crunchy blueberries, with some cold steely minerals in the background. Bright, up-front crunchy berry flavors, but they fade quickly and leave lots of minerally notes in the back half of the palate. 83. Was about $13 at Spec's on Holcombe.

Marriage Wasn't Enough

Last night, I went to a great meeting for the Tennesse Equality Project (TEP) to brainstorm ideas, post-election, to deal with next steps. It has been said many times that gay rights opponents will not be satisfied with simply keeping us from marrying. One of the board members of TEP was very clear in warning us that we have many more battles ahead in this war. Legislation has been brought up before and it will be coming up again to try to take away our right to adopt or simply visit our children in the event of a divorce.

There have also been instances in other states where companies have been attacked for offering domestic partner benefits, especially after these amendments have passed.

I have a feeling Tennessee won't be avoiding this.

An article in The Tennessean today highlighted the growth of large, national companies with a presence in Tennessee offering DP benefits. It's a great article!

However, what's interesting and downright scary are the comments! I never knew that company benefits were somehow connected to God, but apparently in TN, they should be.

Here are a few of the comments:

The chest-thumping "I have spoken!" commenter:

Let's face it, the people of Tennesse spoke very loudly last week. We don't care what you do with your partner in your house. But the majority feels that this lifestyle is not for the benefit of this state.

Hmmm, the standard "we'll have to pay for you to take care of each other" argument. Yeah, makes perfect sense to me!

It is a right, if corporate america wants to offer benefits to domestic partners, that in no way affects me. Now it does become an issue if the government does. That effects me and everyone else that pays taxes. And like the marriage admendment, should be the choice of the people.

This one cuts to the chase.

Please go back in the closet.

Love how there's always one who knows many, many gay people and that he knows several that have over 800 partners a year (guess he's counting and keeping track). Ironically, someone else comes along later to do the math, which is 2.19 partners a day-little time for work or heck even sleep!

Not to mention we should not support immorality in our society, it is not fair for the rest of us to support those people who live their lives recklessly. There is a reason God has placed rules on his people. Not to judge anyone (God’s job), we are called to live a moral life. ()

When I suggested that the TN economy would plummet if all the gay's up and left, this is the response I got:

I'm willing to risk it. Have a nice trip.

Then they have to make the comparison of our long-term, committed relationships to a whole host of harmful actions. I'm surprised they didn't throw in murder while they were at it.

The science of the matter is that homosexuality is a behavior, just like alcoholism or beating your wife (oh, partner, sorry!) is a behavior. You have a choice to act one way or the other.

And, of course, the grand finale:

To all you people being fooled by Satan into thinking homosexuality is not a choice see Leviticus 18:22: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." This passage is God's answer to homosexuality. You are in my prayers. As Christians we dislike the sin, not the sinner.

Ah, yes, tell me something I didn't already know or have had hurled at me a thousand times in my lifetime. Being original is not their forte!

Terrorism: The Big Picture

Dems have always held the belief that it was a mistake to go into Iraq and that doing so "created more terrorists." They are wrong on both counts.

We went into Iraq to topple a murderous leader that killed his own people and had ties with terrorists. Those ties are now being exposed despite the fact that some claimed they did not exist.

In the process we did not create more terrorists. We merely exposed them for who they are and what their global agenda is. After the toppling of Saddam Hussein, radical Islamists could not hold back their hatred for the West and Israel. They did not change their agenda. Their hatred drove them to show their hand. The radical Islamists have a goal to convert every person on this planet to Islam or kill them. Or at the very least, enslave them.

Taking a pro-Israel stance in the conflict has put us on the Muslim blacklist. However, it is our embrace of freedom and Western culture that makes them want to conquer us.

You may think that is an implausible theory but I submit to you that it is not a theory at all. Islam is not a religion of peace. It is a religion of domination and submission. It is a religion of conformity or death.

It has been stated that the majority of Muslims are peaceful and that only a small minority are radical. Then I have a question. Look at the radical Muslim leaders around the world like Hamas, Ahmedinajad, Nasrallah, Qadafi. How did those people come to power? It was by the will (or the apathy) of the people.

No, this war was not started by the United States. This was has been raging for thousands of years. This conflict will lead to the war to end all wars. When will it happen? Read this excerpt from a recent Iranian newspaper editorial predicting the destruction of Israel and calling on Muslims to prepare for "the great war" (Hat Tip: LGF):

“On that day... Jordan will not be able to prevent the Jordanian Islamists from operating through the long Jordan-Palestine border, and the millions of Egyptian Islamists... will not let the Sinai-Israel border remain quiet, and the Syrian Golan Heights will not remain as a [mere] observer of the battle. That day is not so far off.”

I don't believe the American people realize the importance of our role in the Middle East and how crucial it is that we elect the right leadership to maintain a strong position there. The last election proved that.

Whether we complete the mission in Iraq or we pull out prematurely, terrorism will continue. We cannot stop it. But what we must do is weaken its structure and limit its reach.

Top Choices For UN Ambassador: Bolton, Bolton, Bolton

I just read on FoxNews that a Dem and a RINO are pushing ousted RINO Jim Leach to replace John Bolton as UN Ambassador. I have only five responses - no, no, no, no, no!!

We might as well appoint John Kerry or John Murtha. Leach opposes the war in Iraq. He voted against the resolution in 2002 to go into Iraq. What a surprise.

John Bolton is one of the best Ambassadors we've had at UN and we would be stupid to just let him be sent away. I realize we may lose in the end but we must fight!!

Hollywood Enviromentalists: When The Smoke Cleared...

NBC4 TV in Los Angeles has a story on a two-year pollution study by UCLA. According to the report, Hollywood is a big offender when it comes to pollution. It seems that the environmentalist celebrity protesters need to be protesting their own industry.

"Although Hollywood seems environmentally conscious thanks to celebrities who lend their names to various causes, the industry created more pollution than individually produced by aerospace manufacturing, apparel, hotels and semiconductor manufacturing, the study found.

Only petroleum manufacturing belched more emissions."

Ha, ha , ha!!! ROTFL!!! Hollywood is the #2 polluter behind Big Oil!!! Ha, ha, ha!!!

How does that crow taste Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Cindy Crawford, Daryl Hannah, Tea Leoni, Jane Seymour, and Dick Van Dyke?

NOTE: In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that I love Pierce Brosnan movies. He just needs to be enlightened.

Oh Yes, Tennesseans ARE Stupid!

This was posted to our local paper's online comments section (bold is the commenter; italics is my response):

As to the sinister implications of “same sex marriage” here are a few. Our society would experience the loss of religious freedom. This has happened in Canada where Biblical preaching against sodomy is interpreted as hate speech.

and you should care about this why? laws were passed allowing blacks and whites to marry but it hasn't stopped my home church from preaching against it (among other things) and refusing to marry interracial couples.

The public schools will teach homosexuality because it will be the law of the land. Moral instruction on sexual matters may become obsolete and even forbidden.

proof??? schools can't even teach safe sex what makes you think they'll be teaching gay sex. btw, gay sex is not performed any differently than straight sex, only the genders are the same. i know, too much for your mind to handle.

Adoption laws will collapse with regard to the make up of the family and any party will be able to adopt children.

and being able to get kids out of orphanages and revolving foster care is a bad thing? gee, i thought you guys cared about the kids.

Children will be expected to develop emotionally without the permanence of family life.

what's more permanent than marriage? first we're condemned for being promiscuous and then those that want permanence with their soulmates through marriage are told they can't possibly be permanent. who are you to say? how many kids are already expected to develop emotionally without the permanence of family life? you know, divorce? and how many kids are shifted from one parent to the other, from grandparents to aunts/uncles to cousins twice removed? want kids in permanent environments? work on your own first, eh?

Traditional marriage will begin to disappear like it has in Scandinavia where cohabitation is the norm.

show proof, please. The fact is that Scandinavia doesn't have "gay marriage," per se, but "registered partnerships" open to only same-sex couples that give MOST of the rights of marriage but by a different name. For instance, a same-sex couple can adopt each other's children but not children outside of the relationship. So, again, this is a bad thing? What has been seen as the "fall" of traditional marriages is really the rise of same-sex couples entering into "registered partnerships." Not to mention the fact that Scandinavian countries have the lowest poverty rates and highest education rates which basically take away the need for forced marriage of heterosexual couples. They're doing it (marriage) because they love each other, not because the HAVE to.

Oh, here's my source(s):
ILGA
and
Freedom to Marry

Immorality will become impossible to avoid in public.

and we can avoid it now?

The health care industry could be destroyed.

how? so apparently having gay couples being able to care for each other "in sickness and in health" will destroy health care? that doesn't make any sense.

And for those of us who believe in the Bible where sodomy is a symbol of social destruction it could get even worse. That was why we voted for the amendment.

and that's YOUR beliefs, not everyone's. p.s. not only gay people perform sodomy. your bible also says that the races should be separated and that it's okay to have slaves, that women shouldn't cut their hair, and that it's wrong to eat shellfish, that your supposed to keep 300 concubines and sleep with your daughter. sounds like you guys have the corner on perversion and bizarre ritual!

Arkansas: So Much For Civility and Cooperation

Max Brantley at the Arkansas Times blog has posted about a Democratic "rub it in their faces" party called the "Arkansas Blue Ball". The promotion is tacky and the name itself is appropriately tacky.

Here are a few snippets from the text of the invitation:

Democrats come together for an evening to celebrate a long and victorious campaign. This celebration is made possible by hard work -- with special thanks to Republicans Asa Hutchinson, Jim Holt, Gunner DeLay and the rest of the gang that couldn't shoot straight!

Democrats: $5.00 with advance ticket purchase or at the door.
Republicans: $5,000 in advance or at the door - and admission not guaranteed

Dems are saying they want us all to work together. If you take shots at me like that, I'm going to shoot back. I'm not a whining liberal pacifist.

Once again, I say that the Dems mascot is very appropriate. (I'm referring to the Biblical term for a donkey.)

2003 Elyse "Morisoli Vineyard" ZINFANDEL (Napa Valley)

Very good, but not nearly worth the price.

Black ruby-garnet. Lively nose of mountain berries, blood oranges, gingerbread, and earth. Concentrated, but not as fleshy as I expected, with tightly-wound berry fruit and good length. Some tannin still remains as well. Leave this another year to soften texturally, but not much longer than that, as my experience with Zinfandels is that they drop their vibrant fruit much faster than other big reds, like Cabs and Syrah-based wines. 88. Was $31 at Spec's on Smith.

2004 Bogle "Old Vines" ZINFANDEL (California)

A dark, but mature ruby color. Ripe, spicy nose of peaches mulled in raspberry/blueberry juice, with cinnamon and salt-air scents. Not classic Zinfandel aromas, but nice. Broad, low acid flavors of peach pit and gingerbread. Not terribly concentrated, but mouthfilling in a lighter way, with some heat in the finish. A nice quaffer to guzzle in the next few months. 86. Was about $8 and change on sale at Whole Foods on Bellaire.

Beebe Already In Bed With Lobbyists

The Truth In Arkansas Politics blog has a post about Beebe's first appointments since winning the election less than a week ago. It is wrought with old political machine buddies and lobbyists.

Read it and then tell all your friends who voted for Beebe, "We told you so."

We've Been Poisoned By These Fairy Tales

Thank you Don Henley for the lead in...this was a song he wrote at the tail end of the Reagan years, I guess that was how liberals saw it then. Funny how just like "We Shall Overcome" liberal songs take on new meanings when libs move to the front and center. Let me first congratulate the DNC for the performance of this past week. Their strategy of finding and running right of center candidates was extremely successful and just as you admire the quarterback that comes back from a big deficit to lead his team to victory on the final drive...well, Chuck Schumer, you da man. Nancy, you rock! Hastings,Rangel, Murtha, Conyers...you guys are the bomb! I mean that was what we voted for, wasn't it?
Well, the press would have you believe that's what happened. But wait...the same election ushered in bans on gay marriage in eight out of nine states...tax caps and public control over tax increases. The liberal crazies were carried to power on the backs of conservative candidates. Maybe this wasn't the "Once and Future King" of liberalism come back to reclaim his throne. No, it was a deserved "throw the bums out" fit of rage that felt good the night we all pulled the levers in our voting booths. Unfortunately, it's going to feel like a real bad one night stand when we sober up, take the bags off our heads and see who we just crawled into bed with. This is not a sour grapes thought...I was mad at 'em too. I was focused on the war effort and what a change of power would mean to the troops in the field. You know, the stupid ones who voted overwhelmingly Republican and have begged for the chance to finish the job?
So where does that leave us? We seem guaranteed to get a raise in the minimum wage. If you can read this column up to this point, you should be earning more than the minimum wage, but no matter. Now, you won't have to read to earn a few bucks more per hour. The market doesn't work so the Federal Government will have to intervene to make it work...after all, they know better. To hell with all the studies that have proven that raising the minimum wage puts small businesses out of work and costs jobs...jobs that ultimately get shipped overseas, let's feel good about ourselves and raise the minimum wage! This is an area, after all, that the Federal Government belongs...let's get to work!
While we are at it, let's save future car wreck victims and sufferers of Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and the like from their horrible fates by investing billions of Federal dollars in stem cell research...consider this from Reason Online:

The National Institutes of Health spent $24.3 million dollars on human embryonic stem-cell research last year. Critics of President Bush's policy of limiting federal funding to only those stem-cell lines derived before August 2001 worry that this amount—relative to NIH's annual $30 billion budget—is not enough. Persuaded of the importance of this research, the U.S. House of Representatives voted in May to lift President Bush's funding restrictions. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist announced this summer that he supported that legislation. The Senate is poised to vote on the issue later this fall.

But do stem-cell researchers really need the feds? Already there is nearly $4 billion in private and state monies committed to stem-cell research over the next decade, with another three-quarters of a billion dollars under active consideration.

What was that? $4 BILLION in private investment already????? But we need to offend tax payers who actually believe life begins at conception and that embryos should not be "farmed" and "harvested." Further, the results from embryonic stem cells have been less than promising. And there are so many other promising avenues. Look at the progress being made with RNA receptors and nono-bot technology - all in the private sector. I sat in on a talk by Ray Kurzweil a couple of weeks ago in Denver...this guy is the modern Edison. He invented the technology behind digital scanning and photography and is working on devices for the blind. He shed light on the whole emerging bio-engineering field that will leave stem cell research in the dust.

But what business is it of the Federal Government to be involved with either of these two medical advances? Where is that in the Constitution? Is that what we just approved of this past week?

OK, maybe what we wanted to make sure was that coastal owners, threatened by future hurricanes who are irritated at the cost of increase in insurance, receive Federal "backstop" insurance. That will make their premiums more affordable...again, why is this a Federal program?

The good news in all this is that the mask will come off sooner rather than later. Maybe a two year dose of liberalism is what this country needs to shake the dust off of our sandals. They won't be able to help themselves...even as I write this, a news flash comes over the e-mail firewall declaring that "Pelosi supports Murtha" for House Majority Leader. This is going to be a fun two years!

A couple of closing thoughts...

1. Where are the lawyers???? Most of these elections were by razor thin margins. Where are the lawyers to contest the results and demand the recounts? Republicans in their magnaminity conceded elections with grace and without demanding recounts. Al Gore, where are you?
2. God bless the turnout! Regardless of the outcome, the fact that such a huge number of people were willing to turn out was remarkable. Our system is working very well.

For me, I am energized by this. I am disappointed, but not overly so...Republicans had lost their bearings. It's time for them to take a hike in the woods and reflect upon what got them there in the first place. I hope to continue to be part of that and to engage more frequently, the lunacy of the left.

OT: Hogs Dominate!

Sophomore Darren McFadden was an all-around offensive threat, rushing for 181 yards and throwing a 12-yard TD pass to Marcus Monk as #11 Arkansas dominated #13 Tennessee, 31-14.

McFadden, a powerful running back, lined up at quarterback 14 times against Tennessee on which Arkansas netted 121 yards. He is currently ranked #3 in the Heisman Trophy straw poll behind Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

If Arkansas wins its final two games against Mississippi State and LSU, it is possible they could be playing in the national championship game.

OT: Arkansas vs Tennessee Preview

You're probably thinking, "Football?. I thought this was a political blog." You're right but I will occasionally inject other things that are of interest. Being a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a lifelong Razorback fan, I am excited about how the football team is doing this year.

Today is the big matchup between the #11 Arkansas Razorbacks (8-1) and the #13 Tennessee Volunteers (7-2) in Fayetteville, Arkansas. ESPN Game Day broadcast from Razorback Stadium this morning.

Both Arkansas and Tennessee will have new starting quarterbacks today. Sophomore Casey Dick will start for Arkansas after a good outing last week coming in off the bench against South Carolina. Red shirt Freshman Jonathan Crompton, who came in for the injured Erik Ainge last week, will start for Tennessee.

Expect Arkansas running back Darren McFadden to carry the ball a lot today. Arkansas' defensive secondary will have to be alert and in top form to shut down Tennessee's passing game.

No Greater Love Has A Man Than This...

Today is an important day in America. Those of us who still have a sense of right and wrong and of honor and integrity need to stand up, speak out, and show respect for our military veterans. No one has sacrificed so much so that others who wanted to be free would have that opportunity.

I passionately support our troops and honor our veterans. That is why dishonoring our soldiers is one of the few things that will send me into a verbal tirade. That is why I think John Kerry is, on the evolutionary ladder, one step below pond scum.

Support our veterans and soldiers. If you see them, thank them and tell them how much you appreciate them. They can't read your mind. You can't imagine how encouraging and uplifting one small compliment can be. If you can, do something nice for them and/or their family. Send a thank you card, a gift basket, a gift card, etc. They deserve more than we can ever give them.

Michael Steele: HUD or RNC?

Let's get right to the point. Michael Steele as HUD Secretary? Are we wanting to hide him in a closet?

Michael Steele is good for the Republican Party. He needs to be out front, making a case for the GOP in 2008. And he DEFINITELY needs to bring his campaign ad people with him. My education was in marketing/advertising and I have 21 years of experience in that field. As a whole, the Michael Steele campaign ads are the best I've ever seen. Think about it. Dems outnumber the GOP in Maryland 2 to 1, but the vote was essentially 50/50.

Put Michael Steele in the RNC driver's seat. We need some fresh leadership to get this ship headed in the right direction.

GOP Presidential Candidate in 2008?

I've already made my preference known. I don't think there is any viable conservative out there who is as intelligent as Newt Gingrich.

GOPBloggers.com is running a straw poll to see who our preference for presidential candidate in 2008 is. I hate to say it but there are a lot of moderates on the list. I sure hope we learned our lesson last Tuesday.

Maybe we should support human cloning and we could clone Ronald Reagan. Now that would put some fear in the Dems. I would put Reagan up against ANY Dem in history...Clinton, JFK, FDR.

Jump over to GOPBloggers.com and take the poll.

The 9/10 Commission

Ever since the hammer dropped on the Republican party last Tuesday and the realization of who would be in charge of House committees started taking front stage, I've been trying to come up with a name for the Democratic leadership. Thanks to David Limbaugh, I now have one.

Since the sole basis of the Democrats campaign was how the war in Iraq was wrong, George Bush invaded under false pretenses, Donald Rumsfeld was incompetent, our soldiers are brutal savages, we commit acts of torture, we've killed more civilians than Saddam Hussein, we've created more terrorists, etc., etc., it is painfully clear that these people have forgotten 9/11. As David Limbaugh said, they have "reverted to a Sept. 10 mindset."

Henceforth, the Democratic leadership in Congress will be referred to as "The 9/10 Commission". The graphic of the report above says, "The 9/10 Commission Report - Baseless Report Of The Democratic Commission On Iraq And The War On Terror."

The War On Terror is where I fear the most damage by a clueless, liberal Congress. This country will survive a tax increase. It will survive a little unemployment. It will survive a recession.

What will be difficult to survive is the attacks on this country by terrorists emboldened by our "defeat" in Iraq and who want to kill us whether we are Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Green, Socialist, Communist, or those who couldn't care less.

Americans have already shown the first sign of weakness by putting Democrats in control of Congress. Our next sign of weakness will be rabid debate on our presence in Iraq, followed by a "redeployment" or outright withdrawal.

Didn't we learn anything from Vietnam? The wars and conflicts that America has "lost" were lost due to liberal public opinion. Up until wars began being broadcast back to America via left-wing television reporters, we were a dominant force in every war we fought. And we've become an impatient society. We want to watch a few B2 SORTIEs on television, then watch as the enemy happily surrenders as our ground troops go in. 60 days and we're outta there.

I pray that God will keep America safe from terrorist attacks. It isn't right that any should die because of someone else's fanaticism. At the same time, I will be ready for the day when I can scream at the top of my lungs to the Democrats, "We told you this would happen!"

I Think The GOP May Be Getting It

I have read statements today by a few GOP leaders and most of them have said they lost the election because they did not maintain their conservative values. Here is a statement made today by RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman. It's almost as if he read my last post and responded directly to it. (Note: I know Ken Mehlman doesn't read my blog so don't think I'm developing an ego.)

Ken Mehlman, RNC Chair:

Last night, however, the voters sent a message, and we need to make sure we receive that message loud and clear. We need to recommit ourselves to conservative reform...Our leaders will redouble their efforts to enact a conservative agenda and make us proud.

This is a good start but after yesterday, we are going to need some help from the left. The American people will need a reason to kick them out (remember 1994).

After some thinking, I have reversed my opinion (from my previous post) on how President Bush is handling the change in power. The GOP in Congress and President Bush need to allow the Dems to show their hand. Oppose loudly but let them proceed with their agenda. Give them enough rope to let them hang themselves.

For the upcoming elections, we need a return to the Reagan days. I'll try to say this in a "family friendly" way. The GOP needs a huge injection of testosterone so it can grow what it needs to stand up to the Dems and their destructive agenda. Or maybe just a good dose of Fosamax to strengthen their spines.

One recommendation is to get Newt Gingrich as involved in the GOP decision making as possible. He is a brilliant man and knows Washington from the inside out.

Never Again!!

After listening to President Bush's press conference today, I am trying to figure out who the president represents. Is it the people of the United States or the majority in Congress?

I voted for Bush 41 in 1988 and I was very unsatisfied with his presidency because he was too weak and too moderate. Bush 43 has been almost as moderate and it's now looking like he may surpass his father in governing from the center.

If the next two years are nothing but a concession to the Democrats in Congress...

RNC, moderate Republicans, John McCain - Hear me loud and hear me clear!

I will never again vote for a moderate Republican for president. Unless you give me a conservative Republican to vote for, I will either abstain from voting or I will vote for a conservative Independent or Libertarian.

Hello!! You lost because you were too moderate!! Your conservative base is tired of out-of-control spending and everyone is tired of corruption in Washington.

Rumsfeld Out - Bob Gates In

This was a small surprise. I think Rumsfeld was a great Secretary of Defense. He just got caught up in a difficult war and was the victim of political homicide.

Let's hope Bob Gates can step in and show some progress amid the clueless liberal and mainstream media ranting and screaming.

Rummy, we wish you the best.

A Million Things To Say

Here is my analysis of yesterday's election which saw House control move to the Democrats and set the Senate up to do the same in a few weeks.

  • Conservatism Spoke Loudly - Moderate Republicans like George W. Bush found out what happens when you abandon your base. Conservatives could have easily handed this election to the Republicans if they had only danced with the one that brought them. Medicare Part D, a soft stance on illegal immigration, and capitulating on other issues important to conservatives alienated the base.

  • Not A Referendum On The Iraq War - Despite what Democrats are saying and what the media polling is saying, the Republican defeat has very little to do with the war in Iraq. It was a referendum on George W. Bush and the moderate legislation that has been passed since 2004.

  • Impeachment Won't Fly - John Conyers and Henry Waxman would love to impeach President Bush but I don't believe Nancy Pelosi will let that happen. We are two years away from a presidential election and bogging the House down in impeachment hearings would not play out well for the Dems. Americans do not want impeachment. They want the war to be over. Dems want impeachment. Impeachment proceedings would actually be a bonus for conservatives in 2008.

  • The War In Iraq Is In Trouble - This may not fly either but you can expect the Dems to cut off funding for the war. This is the single greatest mistake the Dems will make during their short-lived reign. This will not protect us from terrorism and another strike will put the conservatives back on the map. The big question is whether it will happen before the 2008 presidential election.

  • No More Conservative SCOTUS Appointments - President Bush has now been relegated to a lame duck president. His agenda was buried yesterday. This would be a good time to say, "Why can't we all just get along?" You can expect any Supreme Court appointments that even hint at conservatism to be "Borked". As a conservative, you couldn't pay me enough money to accept an appointment to the Supreme Court right now. I have an aversion to being hacked to bits.

There's a reason the Democrat's mascot is an ass.

Questions For Governor-Elect Mike Beebe

I have a couple of questions for our new Governor-Elect Mike Beebe.

  1. Could you please project a date for the people of Arkansas when the grocery tax will be eliminated?

  2. What do you propose to do with the $700 million surplus that was created by overtaxing the people of Arkansas?

Darkness Creeps Across America

The socialists have taken over the House. The Senate is probably safe but don't uncross your fingers yet. The Missouri race is so close that even minor vote tampering by Democrats (which started before today) could tip the balance.

There is a bit of positive news here. The Democrats who have taken over Republican positions are very conservative. Was that a ploy to get elected or could they vote with Republicans on a number of important issues?

Also, the takeover of the House leadership by such hateful, liberal, socialists does two things. One, it gives me something to do for the next two years and that is to pound the daylights out of them for their irresponsible leadership. Second, it gives me hope for the next elections because if they are true to their beliefs, we could see a swing back to Republicans in the very near future.

The people of this country do not hold the same beliefs and values as the Democratic party. They are frustrated and disillusioned with the war in Iraq. It has been a difficult war but we CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT quit now. The results in Iraq and around the world will be far more disastrous than we have imagined.

Please join with me in keeping these liberal kooks from destroying this country and everything we have gained over the past six years.

Feel Safer?

Only 5% of the precincts are reporting, but as of 8pm:

TN Constitution Amendment #1
Precincts Reporting = 5.3%

Yes 297,928 83.7%
No 58,142 16.3%

I wonder, does my neighbor feel sufficiently safe now? Am I no longer dangerous to his marriage? Does he have so little trust in himself and/or his wife that he has to keep my life in check?

With numbers like this though, I can't help but wonder how many people I know voted against me. That's the truly disturbing part.

UPDATE:
as of 11:00pm

Statewide results
Governor
Phil Bredesen (D) 1,107,680 68.5%
Jim Bryson (R) 484,476 29.9%

No 301,695 19.3%

Davidson County results on the amendment:
Yes 75,083 73.4%
No 27,248 26.6%

I comfort myself with the little piece of news that my east Nashville neighborhood we strong Vote No supporters.

Yet, it is sad to know that the rights of me and my family has been decided by only 27.4% of registered voters.

Another little thing that is kind of flipping me out here. One precinct is reporting these results:
Pearl Cohn School 18,168-Yes 0-No out of only 1,182 registered voters.

Hmmmm, what's wrong with this picture?

Almost Over

Thank God this damn mid-term election cycle is almost over! I have a severe love-hate relationship with politics. I'll be honest though, if my personal relationship with my partner wasn't at stake, I probably wouldn't give two hoots as to what is going on. I'd numbly go to the voting booth and vote a straight Dem ticket and be done with it, but NOOO I have to have my personal life up for a vote so now it's all very personal to me. Imagine that! Now I know that I had no options for a gay-friendly Dem candidate in TN and I also know that several of my neighbors think I'm less of a human being than them. Nice...

This frustration and angst is manifesting itself now in my DREAMS! Thank goodness this only happened last night. If I had been going through these kind of dreams for weeks, I would have run from this state screaming by now.

I remember this of the dream:
I open my front door, not expecting anything unusual, to see my neighbor and a black friend of his (surprise, he looks kind of like Harold Ford! NOT!) in my front yard, kicking and stomping my Vote No on 1 sign. They're laughing and cackling as they do this.

I lose it. I start screaming every obsenity in the book: "get your sorry f***in' ass off my property!" and "I'm gonna kick your motherf***in' ass!" I grab my weedeater that is sitting on my front porch (odd because I never keep it there, but I guess I needed a weapon in my dream) and gripping it at the skinny end, motor out, I start swinging at the little shits for all I'm worth.

You know how sometimes you don't feel strong in your dreams, like when you try to punch someone and it seems like you're barely moving. I didn't feel that AT ALL in this dream. I was a machine of pure, unadulterated vicious anger, and I was going for blood.

I don't remember making contact, but I do remember seeing them fleeing for their sorry lives with their tails between their legs. It felt damn good, and by God, if anyone ever does something like that, I think I just might lose it.

Like I said, I'll be glad when this is over. Then we'll just get ready for round 2 when the fundies start going after our adoption rights and hospital visitation rights. Think it's over? Think again. This is only one battle in the war.

WTH Is Wrong With This Country???

Voting problems are being reported as widespread today, as are instances of voter intimidation and sabotage. What has happened to this country?

There has been a report of assault at a polling place, attacks on campaign offices, voting machine malfunctions, incorrect ballots, and an insufficient number of ballots. Have we devolved into a society of morons?

You can be assured that no matter who comes out on top tonight there will be cries of foul play. And there will be lawyers. And there will be lawsuits. All in a relentless attack on our Constitution.

One of the issues the 110th Congress had better take a hard look at is election reform and the Constitutional rights of voters.

I Voted!

Today at 12:10 pm Central Time, I did my civic duty and voted. In every race where there was a Republican candidate, I voted for the Republican. Where there was no Republican candidate, I abstained. Where there was no party affiliation, I voted for the conservative.

You see, I didn't blindly vote Republican like Democrats blindly vote for Democrats. I am not a mind-numbed robot. I researched each candidate and the issues, and from that analysis, made my choices.

Would I have voted for a conservative Democrat over a moderate Republican? Without a doubt I would have, but I didn't have that choice in this election.

Play-by-Play:

There was no one voting when I got to the polling place. There were two poll workers and two observers. I personally knew the Republican poll worker and we exchanged greetings. I showed my voter registration card and the Democratic poll worker glared at me as if she was watching a suspected shoplifter. I completed my ballot and fed it into the machine, and made sure the counter went up one as my ballot was pulled in.

Election Fraud in Philly

Erick at RedState.com has posted about polling place sabotage and voter intimidation in Philadelphia, PA.

In precincts 7, 19, 51 in Philly, PA, the crowds are going wild. Inside several voting locations, individuals have poured white out onto the polling books and the poll workers are allowing voters to go into the polls and vote without first registering. Several individuals are on hand demanding that voters vote straight Democrat.

RNC lawyers have headed to the scene of the incidents, which are occurring in mostly hispanic precinct locations. The District Attorney has also been contacted.

More from the ground: Reports of voter intimidation by son-in-law of Philadelphia City Commissioner in 19th Ward. Carlos Mantos is not allowing Republican poll watchers with valid poll-watching certificates monitor polling places.

The freedom to vote is as sacred as free speech and if you take that freedom away, you should be sent away for a long, long time.

Ben Franklin would roll over in his grave if he were to see this blatant disregard of our Constitutional rights.

Election Eve Post With Predictions

Well, tomorrow is the big day. The day when the most energized voters go out and choose who will be their representatives in government. My predictions are at the bottom.

The importance of this election is huge because there is a lot at stake.

  • Terrorism/Rogue Nations - This is a huge issue in this election. The differences between Republicans and Democrats could not be more clear. If Dems take control of Congress, they will be soft on terrorists and rogue nations like North Korea and Iran. No doubt about it. Did you ever see anyone have a successful discussion with the neighborhood bully? The extent of his discussion skills was a knuckle sandwich. The only thing that made him take notice was fearlessness in his opponent. We must confront terrorists and rogue nations with fearlessness and a swift and firm demonstrable resistance.

  • Iraq - The soldiers on the ground who are able to get the truth to us from Iraq say that we are making great progress there. A ruthless dictator has been dethroned and has been found guilty of heinous crimes by his own people. If Dems take control of Congress, we will leave Iraq in a state of chaos and our enemies, the terrorists, will take over. Just as going into Iraq did not start terrorism against this country, leaving Iraq will not stop it. Leaving will make it worse.

  • Economy - The Bush tax cuts have been a tremendous success for the people of America and the economy. Unemployment is at an incredibly low 4.4%. The stock market has roared above 12,000. The deficit that the Dems said would balloon out of control has been cut in half, three years ahead of schedule. If the Dems gain control of Congress, say goodbye to tax cuts. Taxes for an average family of four will go up over $2,000. Say goodbye to economic expansion. Say goodbye to stock market gains. Say hello to economic stagnation.

  • Supreme Court - Justice John Paul Stevens will probably retire during George W. Bush's final two years. If Dems take over the Senate, you can expect an appointment much like Justice Stevens who is moderate at best.

  • Far-Left Liberal Control - If Dems take control of the House, this will be the most liberal group of committee chairmen in U.S. history. These names should make you tremble:
    Charlie "Tax and Spend" Rangel
    John "Impeachment" Conyers
    Barney "Gay Marriage" Frank
    Henry "Impeachment" Waxman
    Alcee "Bribery" Hastings
    John "Tax Big Oil" Dingell
    David "Big Spender" Obey
George "Home School Is Evil" Miller

Regardless of what happens tomorrow and who wins up in the W column, remember this - the people who get voted in are not our leaders. They are our servants. They were placed there to do our bidding, not their own. We put them there. We pay their salaries and perks. We give them their power. And we have the power to take it away at any time we choose.

This is OUR government...of the people, by the people, for the people.
