2005 Jackie Preys "Cuvée de Fié Gris" TOURAINE "Vieilles Vigne" (Loire Valley, France)


The Fié Gris is a varietal I've had neither heard of nor tried before, but apparently is an old variety still made in minuscule quantities in the Loire Valley. It was really good, and had a truly unique set of flavors and nice complexity.


Extremely pale gold. Enormously fun nose -- ripe grapes and peaches, lemon-lime, spearmint leaves, and chalky stones. Soft, dry, and light-textured, the wine featured focused, youthful (and remember, this is a 4-year old white!) grapey-herbal flavors, and a long chalky/stoney finish. Very nice sipper for this heat wave we're enduring. 89. Was $18 direct from North Berkeley Imports.

A Few Words About Michael Jackson

I've been a musician for more than 25 years. Music is something that reaches beyond our mind and into our soul. It is a universal language.

While I was never a big Michael Jackson fan, I always respected his genius. He knew how to make the jump from pop singer to pop idol. He wasn't just a singer, he was a performer. His choreographed dancing and videos were groundbreaking and laid the foundation for many of the pop stars of today - Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, etc.

Pop music lost one of its sons this week - maybe the greatest ever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his children and his family. RIP MJ.

Movie Review: Transformers ROTF

I am a sucker for a good action movie. Add technology that surpasses anything we have seen on this planet and I'm there.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen has to be reviewed from two viewpoints. First, from the action movie sucker viewpoint and second, from a father's point of view.

The action in this movie was incredible. New, bigger Transformers, more military involvement. If you like action you will not be disappointed. Shia LaBeouf is very good in this movie as is John Turturro. Ramon Rodriguez was pretty funny as Leo, the unsuspecting roommate of Shia LeBeouf's character.

From a father's point of view, this movie was way over the top on crude language and unnecessary sexual imagery. To get an idea of the language, take the first Transformers movie and multiply that times 10.

Bonus: One of the military officers (Major Lennox) takes a swipe a President Obama and his obsession with finding a diplomatic solution at any cost. The big government jerk in this movie is basically a mouthpiece for Obama. The bad guys are ruthless killers and Obama wants to negotiate with them. Sweeeeeet!!

Coupla Interesting Reds Drunk in Virginia

Was in DC for a deposition, had dinner with Liz's family there (thanks for the great pot roast, Jane!), and brought over a couple of interesting reds I picked up at Arrowine in Arlington (a store I love to visit when I'm in town).

2005 Domaine du Bel Air BOURGUEIL "Les Vingt Lieux Dits" (Loire Valley, France) -- a beautifully fragrant, flavorful, yet ethereally light-textured red, with scents of herby cassis and walnut oil and great length and balance. (Thomas Calder Imports). (Sorry, 2006 shown).

2006 Inama Carmenere "Piu" (Veneto, Italy) -- the French-born Carmenere grape isn't grown in France anymore, and probably reached its highest expression in Chile, but there are a few growers in this region of Italy that grow it. Herbal, dried leaves and dry blackberry scents. Full, deep, and featuring a fair amount of soft tannin, this wine had lengthy, low-toned flavors. Unique and flavorful. Imported by Dalla Terra Winery Direct.

NV Lolonis "Ladybug Red" Old Vines Cuvee VIII (Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, Cal.)

This non-vintage blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, and several other varietals is really fun to drink, just as previous editions of this wine had been.

Vibrant, dense dark ruby. Fun-loving, fruity nose -- shows a lot of Zinfandel spicy black raspberry, with sweet cream and smoky balsa accents. Round, lively, and mouthfilling. Loads of ripe, red fruit flavors. Good length, great balance and texture, with a bit of soft tannin to structure it. 89. Kind of like a California version of a ripe, lively Chianti Classico. $14 and change at Spec's on Smith. (Sorry, could only find a picture of Cuvee V).


Welcome To The USSA

We sounded the alarm months ago. We told everyone what was coming. Did they listen? No. Why? They're too busy with their lives and always looking for help - even if it is from the government, and they don't stop long enough to realize that the government has no money outside of what we give them or allow them to borrow.

Barack Obama is turning this country into the United Socialist States of America at a faster pace than I had imagined. While I wholeheartedly disagree with the government bailout and takeover of General Motors, that isn't what concerns me most. Nor is it his universal health care plan or trillion dollar budget.

What concerns me are his efforts to silence any opposition. I'm not even referring to the Fairness Doctrine. I'm talking about people/companies being threatened if they do not join him. Honestly, it scares me.

The Obama-addicted media is contributing to this with their blackout of opposing voices. One evening during this month ABC will air their newscast from the White House Blue Room to advocate Obama's universal health care plan with no one scheduled who opposes it. It's basically a free infomercial for Obamacare. Will the opposition be given equal time?

Don't you get it? This is equivalent to government-controlled media!! We only get to hear what the government wants us to hear. They will force anything they want down our throats with the help of the Obama-drunk media.

We have to put a stop to this somehow.

2005 "Le Paradou" COTES DE LUBERON (60% Grenache, 40% Syrah) (Rhone Valley, France)

Yum! My kind of Rhone. Modestly-priced, full of flavor, and balanced.

Dark ruby with some garnet hues.

Intense, deep nose of fruitcake, sweet earthy/stony scents, and blackberry juice.Full, ripe, structured, and lively in the mouth. Intense, mouth-coating flavors of spicy, ripe blackberry/raspberry and balsa wood.Good acidity to balance, and a long, somewhat tannic (but not overly so) finish. Very good. Kind of a synthesis between old-style and modern-style Rhones. Drink before the year is up. 89. Although I lost the receipt, I think this was around $15 at Central Market. Imported by Jon David Headrick Selections, who seems like an up-and-coming young importer of naturally-made wines.

2007 Beckman Vineyards CUVEE LE BEC (44% Grenache, 28% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 8% Counoise (Santa Ynez Valley, Cal.)


This perennial good buy is a great buy in this vintage.

Dark blackish ruby violet. Big southern Rhone-like nose of earthy herbal scents over blackberries and pungent minerals. Big, deep-toned, and fleshy in the mouth, with intense "garrigue" (that's the French way of saying "earthy-herbal") and iodine/mineral-tinged blackberry fruit. Long, peppery finish with substantial but soft tannin. A big, satisfying mouthful of red. 89. Was about $17 at Spec's on Holcombe.

Breaking up is hard to do...

There is a very interesting piece over at the Weekend Edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning titled "Divided We Stand." The author, Paul Starobin, sketches out a possible future for the United States as a loosely knit group of republics with even some geographic boundaries obliterated. For example, "Cascadia," would be a new regional republic carved out of the Pacific Northwest cities of Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, Canada (wait till after the Winter Olympics!). "Calibaja" would turn San Diego into the capital of Northwest Mexico, Baja and a large chunck of Southern California.

What is interesting about this is the frighteningly real possibility that this could happen. We have an imperial government in Washington D.C. now that in just six months has:

1. Violated all precepts of contractual law invalidating hundreds of years of case law.
2. Unconstitutionally seized control of a large piece of the manufacturing sector.
3. Unconstitutionally seized a large part of the capital market structure.
4. Ignored qualifying norms (like paying taxes) for high level officials.
5. Delved into private property, entrepreneurial capitalism and all aspects of commerce without right.
6. Mortgaged the futures of our children and their children.
7. Is attempting to seize control of our healthcare system.
8. Ignored the counsel of military leaders on what measures (like missile defense) are necessary to keep us safe.

The list goes on and on...we are drowning in debt we cannot pay and this is just the beginning! I know a lot of my friends are reading "Atlas Shrugged," and begining to feel like Galt. I'm increasingly feeling like a colonist in the 1770's - no taxation without representation! Washington has truly become Leviathan and we all (both political stripes) feel powerless. I love my country and desperately want her to succeed and stay together, but increasingly, I feel we have a tyrannical government and that the only way we will bring those idiots on the Potomac to heel is to consider secession and separation into distinct regions.

In the near term, this could bring some peace to the social wars too. If you want to live in a land where gay marriage, infanticide, socialized medicine and euthanasia rock your boat - move to Novacadia or Calivada. If you want religion to be allowed in the public square, low taxation and personal freedom, Texas, Kentennalageorge or Virgicarol will welcome you. Then, in these smaller, more efficient republics we will see which system really does work better for the long haul. We would have to work out some commercial rules for travel and trade between the republics and we would have to have some form of military sharing for mutual defense, but those are details that could be worked out.

My guess is, the period of republican devolution would last about 50 years. It will take two generations of pure socialism and liberal social anarchy in Novacadia and Calivada for them to come to grips with the fact that it doesn't work. Then maybe we could all get along again. Maybe.

If this sounds like fantasy, perhaps it is. But this time, one year ago, if you had told me that a U.S. hating, mixed-race racist with a resume thinner than a communion wafer would be sitting in the Oval Office I would have told you "no way." I think the election of 2010 will be a real windvane for the direction this country wants to go. If we have reached the point where those who pay the taxes are in the minority to those who receive the benefits therefrom, secession could become quite popular.

John Wayne: An American Legend

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of John Wayne's death. What a fantastic actor he was. I have seen countless John Wayne movies, most of them worth watching over and over. True Grit, Red River, The Searchers, Stagecoach, McClintock, Rio Bravo, The Shootist, The Green Berets, Sands Of Iwo Jima - timeless classics.

Many of the characters John Wayne portrayed had the qualities of what made this nation great. Self-reliance, honesty, integrity, courage, determination, discerning what was right and doing it.

Beyond his enormous on-screen presence, John Wayne was a true American patriot. He loved America and eschewed anyone who talked bad about her or tried to take her off of the course established by our Founding Fathers.

Here are a couple of quotes from Wayne that show his conservative position on issues:
Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be. I was proud when President Nixon ordered the mining of Haiphong Harbor, which we should have done long ago, because I think we're helping a brave little country defend herself against Communist invasion. When asked how blacks could address the inequities of the past, Wayne replied:

By going to school. I don't know why people insist that blacks have been forbidden to go to school. They were allowed in public schools wherever I've been. I think any black man who can compete with a white can get a better break than a white man. I wish they'd tell me where in the world they have it better than right here in America. (1)
We all owe John Wayne a great debt because to this day he is still influencing the ideals of the American people through his movies.

Prayers to Lefty

Phil Mickelson got hit with the bombshell of finding out his wife has breast cancer. From the sounds of it it isn't terminal, but with cancer, there are no definites.

After taking time to spend with his family, Phil is playing in the St. Jude Classic, and the U.S. Open.

His wife Amy will undergo surgery to remove the cancerous tissue over the 4th of July week, followed by a year of treatment.

God speed to Phil, Amy and their family.

Obama: America's Greatest Mistake

This is an open letter to all Americans, liberal or conservative, rich or poor, black or white, male or female, young or old, Christian or agnostic. If you fall into any of those categories, this letter is for you.

Approximately 230 years ago, a wise and brave group of men determined that freedom was a God-given right and that the freedom of the colonists was being infringed upon by the government. They grew tired of the government taxing them. They grew tired of the government making laws without regard to them or even listening to them.

After realizing the government would never listen, the colonists decided it was time to disengage themselves from the rule of said government and create their own government based on individual rights and freedom. Freedom to control your own destiny. Freedom to worship in the way you wanted. The right to be heard. The right to be properly represented in the government.

Now the ruling government was none too happy about this because their power was threatened. They tried to crush the opposition but the opposition had grown too large and too strong. Despite that, the key to the colonials victory was freedom. Real men will fight for freedom to the death. There is an innate desire within the human soul to be free. Freedom from oppression. Freedom to think. Freedom to speak. Freedom to succeed.

Here we are some 230 years later and things look similar to those colonial days. The government is overtaxing us. They do not listen to the people. They make laws without regard of the people. They spend money to the detriment of our descendants. They care only about themselves and their lust for power.

In the Declaration of Independence, our Founding Fathers clearly spelled the right of the people to oppose and even abolish the government if the government was being destructive in its actions.

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Barack Obama's election is indeed historic. It is the greatest mistake in our history. No president has rushed so quickly to destroy this nation. Obama is dismantling capitalism, free markets, private property, and individual freedom. We are becoming the enemy we hated 25 years ago.

If we, the people, cannot regain control of our government, we will be faced with two options.

Option 1 is to allow this country to fall into socialism at the hands of Barack Obama and his minions. To do this is disrespectful of every man, woman, and child who lost their lives in the battles for freedom that have taken place over the past 230 years.

Option 2 is to follow the lead of our forefathers who knew what was right and gave themselves to the cause of freedom. We are still a strong people. We are still a brave people. We are still the creators of our own destiny. We are still a free people.

If we do nothing, all of those things will be lost. Not just for us, but for our children and our grandchildren.

DO SOMETHING!!

Get the attention of your government representatives. Tell them what you want them to do and make sure they know you will not vote for any candidate who supports more taxes and more government control. They work for you, not vice versa.

If you have what it takes, run for office. Don't be afraid. The people who hold those positions are not any smarter than you are. A trained monkey can take money out of your pocket and stick it in his pocket. It takes someone with conviction and integrity to stand up for what is right.

I'm sure this post will land me on the DHS Domestic Terrorist List but I really don't care. My country is too important to just sit by an watch it be destroyed. Too many lives were lost to build it and I'll be hanged if I'm going to sit by and watch a rookie socialist tear it apart.

Obama Is Now God

And I thought Megan Fox was stupid. Evan Thomas is supposed to be an educated, smart guy but instead, he's just another Kool-Aid drinking, babbling idiot.



Reagan was all about America but Obama is above that??? Obama is God??? I can feel anger welling up inside of me when I hear that. I don't blame Obama for this, I blame the salivating, liberal media for trying to crown him as God.

Evan, you need to quit your job and go to work for the White House. It's much easier to grovel and kiss butt when you're that close.

Megan Fox: Beauty And A Beast

Hollywood. A cesspool of liberal insanity. However, while they are wrong, some of them are articulate and express their viewpoints well. Then there are those like Megan Fox who are blithering idiots who have no control over their hatred or their tongues.

There is no doubt that Megan Fox is one of the most beautiful women in the world. But her unbridled hatred shows us that outer beauty is no proof of inner beauty. She is truly a beauty and a beast.

Fox apparently hates anyone who is not liberal. She wishes the evil Transformer Megatron would attack and destroy middle America. Fox said, “... and instead of the entire planet, can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?"

For those of you who don't live in middle America, this is what liberals think of you. If we remain silent and do not condemn this sort of vile attack (like the recent repugnant Playboy list regarding conservative women - if you look it up, I am warning you first, it is bad), it will become the predominant view and we will be targeted for "re-education." Don't believe me? Sit back and watch.

Government Idea of "Equal Health Care"

The Kennedy Bill was released to the public over the weekend in a non-searchable version, but through the diligence of bloggers, a searchable text and PDF file is available for the public. Here are some of the things that were found in the bill (H/T to Keith Hennessey, emphasis mine)
Here are 15 things to know about the draft Kennedy-Dodd health bill.


1) The Kennedy-Dodd bill would create an individual mandate requiring you to buy a “qualified” health insurance plan, as defined by the government. If you don’t have “qualified” health insurance for a given month, you will pay a new Federal tax. Incredibly, the amount and structure of this new tax is left to the discretion of the Secretaries of Treasury and Health and Human Services (HHS), whose only guidance is “to establish the minimum practicable amount that can accomplish the goal of enhancing participation in qualifying coverage (as so defined).” The new Medical Advisory Council (see #3D) could exempt classes of people from this new tax. To avoid this tax, you would have to report your health insurance information for each month of the prior year to the Secretary of HHS, along with “any such other information as the Secretary may prescribe.”

2) The bill would also create an employer mandate. Employers would have to offer insurance to their employees. Employers would have to pay at least a certain percentage (TBD) of the premium, and at least a certain dollar amount (TBD). Any employer that did not would pay a new tax. Again, the amount and structure of the tax is left to the discretion of the Secretaries of Treasury and HHS. Small employers (TBD) would be exempt.

3) In the Kennedy-Dodd bill, the government would define a qualified plan:

A) All health insurance would be required to have guaranteed issue and renewal, modified community rating, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions, no lifetime or annual limits on benefits, and family policies would have to cover “children” up to age 26.

B) A qualified plan would have to meet one of three levels of standardized cost-sharing defined by the government, “gold, silver, and bronze.” Details TBD.

C) Plans would be required to cover a list of preventive services approved by the Federal government.

D) A qualified plan would have to cover “essential health benefits,” as defined by a new Medical Advisory Council (MAC), appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The MAC would determine what items and services are “essential benefits.” The MAC would have to include items and services in at least the following categories: ambulatory patient services, emergency services, hospitalization, maternity and new born care, medical and surgical, mental health, prescription drugs, rehab and lab services, preventive/wellness services, pediatric services, and anything else the MAC thought appropriate.

E) The MAC would also define what “affordable and available coverage” is for different income levels, affecting who has to pay the tax if they don’t buy health insurance. The MAC’s rules would go into effect unless Congress passed a joint resolution (under a fast-track process) to turn them off.

4) Health insurance plans could not charge higher premiums for risky behaviors: “Such rate shall not vary by health status-related factors, … or any other factor not described in paragraph (1).” Smokers, drinkers, drug users, and those in terrible physical shape would all have their premiums subsidized by the healthy.

5) Guaranteed issue and renewal combined with modified community rating would dramatically increase premiums for the overwhelming majority of those Americans who now have private health insurance. New Jersey is the best example of health insurance mandates gone wild. In the name of protecting their citizens, premiums are extremely high to cover the cross-subsidization of those who are uninsurable.

6)The bill would expand Medicaid to cover everyone up to 150% of poverty, with the Federal government paying all incremental costs (no State share). This means adding childless adults with income below 150% of the poverty line.

7) People from 150% of poverty up to 500% (!!) would get their health insurance subsidized (on a sliding scale). If this were in effect in 2009, a family of four with income of $110,000 would get a small subsidy. The bill does not indicate the source of funds to finance these subsidies.

8) People in high cost areas (e.g., New York City, Boston, South Florida, Chicago, Los Angeles) would get much bigger subsidies than those in low cost areas (e.g., much of the rest of the country, especially in rural areas). The subsidies are calculated as a percentage of the “reference premium,” which is determined based on the cost of plans sold in that particular geographic area

9) There would be a “public plan option” of health insurance offered by the federal government. In this new government health plan, the federal government would pay health care providers Medicare rates + 10%. The +10% is clearly intended to attract short-term legislative support from medical providers. I hope they are not so naive that they think that differential would last.

10) Group health plans with 250 or fewer members would be prohibited from self-insuring. ERISA would only be for big businesses.

11) States would have to set up “gateways” (health insurance exchanges) to market only qualified health insurance plans. If they don’t, the Feds will set up a gateway for them.

12) Health insurance plans in existence before the law would not have to meet the new insurance standards. This creates a weird bifurcated system and means you would (probably) be subject to a different set of rules when you change jobs.

13) The bill does not specify what spending will be cut or what taxes will be raised to pay for the increased spending. That is presumably for the Finance Committee to determine, since it’s their jurisdiction.

14) The bill defines an “eligible individual” as “a citizen or national of the United States or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence or an alien lawfully present in the United States.”

15) The bill would create a new pot of money for state gateways to pay “navigators” to educate people about the new bill, distribute information about health plans, and help people enroll. Navigators receiving federal funds “may include … unions, …”


So As Keith Sums it up;
* The government would mandate not only that you must buy health insurance, but what health insurance counts as “qualifying.”
Health insurance premiums would rise as a result of the law, meaning lower wages.
* The government determines what items and services must be covered.
* Healthy people would pay the same premiums as high risk people such as smokers/drinkers.
* Well over half of all Americans would be eligible for subsidies, and likely less than 5% will foot the bill.
* The government has unlimited ability to levy taxes if you do not buy "qualifying" insurance"
The government can require you provide him or her with “any such other information as [he/she] may prescribe.”

Creating More Government Has Opposite of Desired Affect

"NEW YORK (AP) - The Federal Reserve announced a $1.2 trillion plan three months ago designed to push down mortgage rates and breathe life into the housing market.

But this and other big government spending programs are turning out to have the opposite effect. Rates for mortgages and U.S. Treasury debt are now marching higher as nervous bond investors fret about a resurgence of inflation."

Really? The government creates a false influx of cash equal to 15% of the United States total GDP and expects interest rates to go down?

Here's a question of Economics 101...If you have a sudden demand of loans without an increase in savings, what are the banks going to do? They are going to raise interest rates of both the loans and savings. They increase the loan rate to decrease the demand of lending, and then increase the savings interest rate to attract savers since most banks are required to have $1 in the vault for every $10 they loan out. The opposite occurs when people save more than they borrow, interest rates go down on both loans and savings accounts to attract loans and discourage saving.

So the government pumps in trillions of dollars that were intended to create more credit/borrowing, and they are surprised that the interest rates suddenly increase?

You know, something seems oddly familiar about this...Inflation is caused by "an increasing amount of money chasing a fixed amount of goods,”

PARSING

I began reading the speech that B. Hussein O. delivered to the “Muslim World” with some trepidation. The propensity for this man on foreign soil has been to blame their problems on the United States or the West in general. It didn’t take long for my fears to be met. How does BHO explain the problems of the Islamic world? Two paragraphs in he said:
“…tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations. Moreover, the sweeping change brought by modernity and globalization led many Muslims to view the West as hostile to the traditions of Islam.”
So colonialism (which the United States NEVER engaged in), which raised many of these countries out of the dust of the Middle Ages, a Cold War (which we did engage in, but the purpose was to defeat communism, not keep Islamic countries down-trodden) and our own success are why the West is “hostile to Islam?”

He continues: “America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles — principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.” OK, Obama, show me the common principles between the Judeo-Christian ethic of ALL individuals being equal and Sharia law. Show me the progress of how women are treated in these countries with “tolerance and dignity.” The two traditions could not be further apart…this is ignorance or purposeful blindness.

Here’s another stem-winder: “And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.” Tell that to the Christians living in Muslim countries:
In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country and one traditionally renowned for its religious toleration, terrorists bombed churches in 18 cities, killing scores and wounding hundreds. Violence against the Christian minority has steadily continued over the past decade." As an example, he cited the beheadings of three Christian teenage girls in Sulawesi in late October. International Christian Concern's Jeff King brought photos of the incident; the girls' heads were left at a church, each with a note that vowed, "We will murder 100 more Christian teenagers and their heads will be presented as presents."

In Egypt Christians are treated as "second-class citizens" under state-sponsored discrimination and actively persecuted by Islamic militants apart from the government. He cited the week-long riot in October against St. George's Coptic Church in Alexandria by a 10,000-strong mob incensed by rumors of blasphemy.

Christians face repression in Iran. Tehran's tyrannical President Ahmadinejad met with 30 provincial governors and reportedly declared, "I will stop Christianity in this country," avowing to shut down the country's growing house-church movement.

In Saudi Arabia, Christians, a large percentage of the foreign workers making up a quarter of the population, will not be able to find any churches whatsoever to worship in. Churches are forbidden. Dozens of those who pray together in private houses were arrested and jailed earlier this year. This fanatically intolerant kingdom even forbids Muslims, under threat of death, to wish a Christian "Happy Holidays," much less "Merry Christmas." (Source: Center or Religious Freedom)

Continuing, BHO asserts that there are “almost 7 million Muslims living in the United States…” Pew Research puts the number at 2.4 million in 2007 – have almost 5 million immigrated since then? The only source that puts the number that high is the terrorist connected Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), dutifully repeated by Newsweek.

In discussing the "war on violent extremism," Obama actually does a pretty good job of defending why we went into Afghanistan (and are still there)...as I read that section of the speech I thought he was actually "getting it," and just changing the vernacular. But then he wrapped up that part with this doozy: "The enduring faith of over a billion people is so much bigger than the narrow hatred of a few. Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism — it is an important part of promoting peace." Islam IS part of the problem and until moderates and sane members of their religion start policing from within and root out the insane murdering huns that have overpowered their faith, there can be no peace.

BHO muddles into Iraq with this campaignspeak: "Let me also address the issue of Iraq. Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world." Iraq was a lot of things, many of them wrong, but to call it a "war of choice," as if we sat around and played Eenie, meanie, minie, mo and "chose" Iraq" is irresponsible and damn near traitorous. We "chose" Iraq because Saddam had violated every UN resolution ever passed and was thought to have WMD's. EVERYONE thought he did - whether he got them out and into the Bakaa Valley we may never know, but post-facto denial...should we call it "Pelosification," is a disease rampant among the left.

He wraps up the "foreign wars" section with this: "So America will defend itself, respectful of the sovereignty of nations and the rule of law. And we will do so in partnership with Muslim communities which are also threatened." This might have been a good place to have mentioned that almost EVERY engagement we have fought in the last twenty years has been to help Muslims. Bosnia? Help Muslims against Christian Serbs. Kosovo? Ditto. Afghanistan? Liberate mainstream Muslims from fanatical Huns. Iraq? Liberate Muslims from a fanatical oppressive regime. How about a little "cred" on the "Muslim Street," Barry?

The next section of his speech dealt with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It's the usual call for two states. It's really a "blah blah" part of the speech in that it repeats the usual mantra for peace that all sides have ignored: Arabs have to recognize Israel (tell that to the Saudis and the Iranians); Hamas has to play nice; Israel has to stop building. The symbology of this whole trip is such an afront to Israel that his line about our bond with the Israelis being "unbreakable" rings a little hollow. Here's what the Israelis think:
These posters appeared yesterday all over the country after a massive protest at the U.S. Embassy. These folks see past the empty rhetoric and three-second teleprompting head swing. Anyhoo - BHO has now solved the misunderstanding over our military presence in the Middle East, brought peace and purple unicorns to the Arab-Israeli conflict, cured the common cold...what's next? Oh, that nagging nuclear situation.

Well, here's the first part of the history lesson: "For many years, Iran has defined itself in part by its opposition to my country, and there is in fact a tumultuous history between us. In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government. Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians." First, the 1953 Coup was conducted to prevent the nationalization of the British and American oil companies operating in Iran. By today's standards, boorish behavior. It was also a defensive move to present the Soviets from either allying or taking Iran by force. But the reasons for the coup are far more complex than BHO lets on - let alone the fact that the Muslim clerics in Iran strongly supported the coup! Further, the "Islamic Revolution" was allowed to proceed, in large part because of the acquiescence of Jimmy Carter and his active engagement in forcing the Shah from power. Only in "History for Dummies" can you get such a boiled down, audience pleasing summary of what happened. It wasn't just simple old misunderstanding and "hostage taking," it was the seizing of an Embassy! The very fabric of diplomacy was ripped asunder by the Iranian stooges...as the son of a diplomat who grew up overseas, what happened in Tehran is extremely close to Rumbler's heart. From that point forward, EVERY U.S. diplomat has had a target on them. Writing it off as bad behavior does nothing to restore diplomacy or trust.

BHO wraps up Iranian relations by asserting that they have the right to peaceful nuclear power...two questions: first, why did they turn down repeated offers by member nations of the EU and Russia to provide nuclear fuel for peaceful reactors AND two, Barry - if they get nuclear power, can we? Sure would be a lot more efficient than the windmills!

The next chapter is about democracy in the Middle East. BHO says that Americans like democracy and respect democratically elected leaders, especially those that don't abuse their population...wonder if economic abuse counts? He SAYS these things having just left Saudi Arabia, one of the most viciously oppressive monarchies in the world and while standing in Egypt, one of the most viciously oppressive regimes in the world. Talk is cheap. I'm not sure what he could have said, to be honest, but why bother to bring it up? They are not going to change because of a few sentences on the teleprompter. If you are going to bring it up, back it up. Call out the regimes - talk about Christians and women in Saudi, talk about Jews and Christians in Egypt.

He circles back to religious tolerance in the next volume. With this nice juxtaposition: " Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance. We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition." I get it! Islam good, Catholics bad! Never mind that the Inquisition was over 500 years ago and that Catholics have progressed out of that awful time to true tolerance while Islam has gone straight back to before the Dark Ages. And Barry, check your history, the coexistance in Andalusia and Cordoba was tolerated bacause the Christians and Jews paid the tax dictated by the Koran.

In chapter six he brushes over women's rights. He rightfully points out the countries that have elected women to high office, but why not call out those that treat women like dogs...like, say, Saudi Arabia or Egypt? But all of this is prelude to the concluding act in our drama: the goodie bag!!

So, for having to sit through this 6,000 word scrabble, what do the gangs in the crowd get? Obama's list includes:
  • Expanded exchange programs for Muslim students.
  • A new "corps of business volunteers to partner with counterparts in Muslim-majority countries."
  • A Summit on Entrepreneurship...gotta have one of those.
  • A "new fund to support technological development in Muslim-majority countries."
  • A bunch of "centers of scientific excellence in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia."
  • Umm, they're getting what we're supposedly getting: "programs that develop new sources of energy, create green jobs, digitize records, clean water, grow new crops."
  • And we're going to eliminate polio and get better healthcare for women and children in Muslim countries.
Whew! I'm guessing the audience was a little disappointed. This is usually where Barry tells them how much cash he's going to spend. But sounds like they will get a rich new source of bomb targets and kidnap victims. Sorry to be so cynical, I want all God's children to get along as much as the next guy. And, I firmly believe that the one common thread to all humanity is the wish that our children have a better world than the one we grew up in. Sadly though, there is a group of "humans" centered in the Muslim world that want to strap bomb vests on their children and send them in to kill Jews, Christians and Americans. As Golda Meir said so plaintively almost fifty years ago: " We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us."

A truly bold speech would have called on Arabs to stop suicide bombings and terrorist plots. Put in some salve for scientific advancement and algebra, but point out the FACT that change has to come from within their world. We can't impose it on them or buy it for them. Until that happens, it's just words.

RSCCM Gold Award: MSNBC's Richard Wolffe

So far, no one has deserved the RSCCM Gold Award more than Richard Wolffe. He is the poster child for moronism.

On Keith Olbermann's show Monday night, Wolffe said there was a "direct link" between the people who yelled "kill him" at a McCain-Palin rally* and the murder or abortionist George Tiller. How do you make a face of disgust as a smiley? Not only is that disgusting, it is laughably moronic.

Wolffe goes on to say that abortion protests incite people to violence. Mr. Wolffe, I have a question. What do protests at military recruiting centers lead to? Maybe shootings at recruiting centers by enraged liberals who convert to Islam? Sounds plausible to me using your logic (or lack of).

Hey Obie, why was there no mention of the shootings at the military recruiting center in Little Rock during this segment? Are you trying to present a biased viewpoint? I see. Well, you did a great job.

* This never happened. It was a fabrication of the mainstream media to smear Sarah Palin and conservatives.

Obama And Media: Abortionists More Important Than Soldiers

Our Pretender-In-Chief has unwittingly placed a higher value on the life of a baby-killing abortionist than on the lives of American soldiers. Very soon after the murder of abortionist George Tiller, Obama publicly condemned the shooting. In the case of the soldiers in Little Rock who were savagely gunned down by a Muslim terrorist, it has been more than 24 hours without any comment from the White House.

The media obviously feels the same. Their coverage and criticism in the Tiller murder far outweighs that in the murder of the Little Rock soldiers. You know, Tiller was a good doctor providing a much needed service for women who was killed by a Christian, right-wing terrorist. The soldiers in Little Rock were just savage baby killers who deserved to be shot, right?

Folks, this is a frightening reality. We are losing the war against liberalism because of the media. We had better figure out a way to loosen the liberals death grip on the media or we are in big, big trouble.

BREAKING: Olbermann, Matthews, Maher Conspire To Commit Murder

Two American soldiers were killed in Little Rock, Arkansas, today at a military recruiting center. A witness said a man driving a black sport pickup pulled up to the recruiting center where the two soldiers were standing outside. The man fired six to seven shots striking both soldiers then sped away. One soldier was killed and the other was seriously injured.

This can only be attributed to one thing - hatred of the American military spewed by venomous snakes like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and Bill Maher. It is their constant bashing of Bush and the War On Terror that drives people like this killer to target and attack our heroic soldiers. They and their kind should be banned from the airwaves.

For you liberals who are fuming at me because you don't understand sarcasm, lighten up. This is nothing more than a sarcastic enlightenment for you hateful liberals who blame everything on Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck.

This moron in Little Rock was no more influenced by Olbermann, Matthews, and Maher than the man who shot George Tiller was influenced by Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck.

Tiller: A Murderer Murdered

Daily Kos mouth-foamers, please post this somewhere on your blogs in the same place where you are saying that this murder was the fault of conservative talk show hosts and that the murderer was a conservative terrorist.

The murder of George Tiller was just plain wrong. Yes, George Tiller was a vile man who had no regard for human life. This does not give anyone a vigilante pass to kill him. Tiller should have been brought to trial for his actions. He reminds me somewhat of an abortionist who I had a longstanding letters-to-the-editor feud with a few years back. This guy was as arrogant as they come.

I would have preferred that Tiller remain alive, have a Damascus Road experience, and then speak on the evils of abortion.

Some have said he didn't deserve to die. I disagree. Everyone deserves to die and will sooner or later. But it isn't a vigilante's prerogative to make it sooner.
