Gerald Ford did not go down in history as one of our most memorable presidents. He is most noted for his clumsiness, personified by comedian Chevy Chase.In 1975, it was my first time to see and president in person, when President Ford spoke at the dedication of a new hospital in my hometown. I was 12 years old and only have a few memories of the event, but I still have the official schedule of the day.
Gerald Ford was the solid rock this country needed after the Watergate debacle. Confidence in the presidency and the government was shaken to its core. Ford stepped in a gave it stability. The effects of his tenure may never be known but I assure you they were significant.
